Hi, I've been married for 5 years now. If I was you I'd start looking for a dress now. Most shops should have a stock of next years "In"dresses. As for invites i'm sure you send them out maybe 8-10 weeks before. But I'm sure most people know that they are invited anyway! Get your skates on girl! and Good luck!

Hi Susan, My daughter got married last year - stressful time if you let it be. Book the Registrar, the church, the venue (including caterer and music, some venues will provide the catering and music in with the fee), the photographer and video now. About six months before have a word with the florist about flowers. Visit the caterers to discuss the menu. Discuss decoration with the venue e.g. table arrangements and flowers etc. You should start looking for the wedding dress, veil and headdresss right now. Have a look for bridesmaids dresses but don't buy yet as we found to our cost when things didn't 'fit quite near to the date - children grow so quickly. You can buy some lovely bridesmaids dresses off the peg by the way, from large department stores. About three months to the date tell future hubby to get his skates on and look for a nice suit (and the best man, ushers etc) usually order from the shops at this time so any alterations can be made. Always!!! keep in touch with venue, caterers and florists. In between now and the big day buy all items such as shoes, jewellery, fiddly things for the tables etc. Also don't forget to book the hairdresser and makeup. My daughter got married at 1.30pm we were at the hairdressers at 8am. Invitations sent 8 weeks beforehand. Phew, I think that just about covers it. Good luck!

thank you. I have booked the registra, the resturant for the dinner time meal, the buffet room and DJ for the reception and we are putting a deposit on the cake this weekend. I wanted to go looking for my dress last weekend but my mum was busy so we are going the first week after christams. As for the car and photos a close friend is getting a new car and has one of them big camras. I have all the menus for the meals wich we are giving out the first week in Jan so nobody books a summer holidays wich will be put in with there invertations. I think we a getting there. I know this may sound like a silly question but i do not know the answer. When i sign the book do i sign it as my current name or new name( we are getting married in a regisatry office if that make a difference.)

It's not as silly a question as you think. You sign your maiden name(name before you marry). I was unsure myself and actually asked the minister as I was about to sign. Good on Carron, for all her info. My mum, like Carron took care of most things, and I had nothing to do for the six months before my wedding. I'm sure everything will be grand. Keep us posted. Mind you I'm sure you'll have plenty else on your mind than posting to us lot, but pls try! Shmoo! ;D

Sorry, forgot to add, if you are booking coaches or minibuses to the venue for your guests ask on the invitations if they want a lift and to let you know. We booked two coaches and only used one. Big waste of money because many people arranged their own transport. Also in the case of the wedding list, although she had some lovely presents, my daughter asked for vouchers or cash gifts which most people were happy about, saved trudging them home after the reception. We all had a wonderful day and I am sure you will too. Don't worry too much, things go wrong but that makes it more memorable. By the way I didn't have any problem signing my name, I kept the same surname, the groom, the priest, best man, bridesmaid had the same name too. Shmoo is right you sign your maiden name. Remember it's your day, enjoy it and make memories.

On a completely different matter i have not seen these new quize that were coming soon. Does anybody know when they will be? Had a problem with webspace (or lack of it). It's on my list of things to do. Good luck with the wedding preperations by the way, we organised ours in about six months. It got a bit stressful at times but was well worth it as everyone had a fantastic day. Any advice, just ask and I'm sure we'll all help!

My brother got married recently and had a "wishing well" at the reception (a small wooden well someone had put together). In the invitations they wrote a small poem stating that they already had two of everything and would prefer money for their presents to spend on something big. They also included a small envelope in the invitation and wrote "wishing well" on the outside. It worked really well and most poeple used the envelopes for the presents. Beck

thats a good idea, we are asking for money or vochures as we have everything we need. I have somebody coming round on wednesday to sort out the cake i am really excited eevrything is going really smoothly so far and i still have loads of time left yet till the day. Get christamas out of the way now, that is not goig as smoothly, we know when it is every year leave it later and later every year.
