Yeah, we used to play with balls knocking them against the wall - can't remember what we called it though. We used to play with tennis balls or basketballs. Oh the fun of primary school recess! ;D

Funnily enough I was thinking about the tennis ball games yesterday. There was a certaion name for one of them where, like Shmoo said you threw it under your leg, backwards,..etc..we spent ages mastering it. Talk about small things pleasing you for hours! Do you remember clapping games, you know where you and a pal clapped your hands together in a rytham,,"Wish bang boom when my heart went boom.." or "my Momma told me, if I was goodie"...or "under the bramble bushes under the tree"...Ring any bells with anyone? See ya! Becky

I'm sure these things varied from school to school, but at mine the game where you bounced a ball off the walls / under your leg / clapped twice before catching etc. was called "Seven-Up".
There's untapped videogame potential in old playground games, you know...

Danforth you are an Angel!!! It´s been really annoying me trying to remember the name of that ball game..but when you mentioned seven up it all came flooding back. We called it "seven" or "sevens´s"..I don´t think I can remember all the different moves, but I remember playing it at school and then after school at the side of our house. (Practice made perfect you know... ) Does anybody remember a toy called "wiggles" roundplastic thing with a weight inside that made it wobble in your hand or on the floor, often had eyes and a mouth painted on them... "ee by gum..thems were t´days!"...(Incase you hadn´t noticed I´m a Lancashire Lass! )

I'm sure what you called wiggles, we up here in Scotland called jumpin beans. If they were small that is! As for the game with the tennis balls we just called it 2 balls I'm sure. We were so innocent then we didn't realise the pun! haha. Some of our rhymes were about Mrs Blue lost her shoe on the way to Timbuctoo, and every rhyming word you had to throw the ball under your leg or wherever.

Don't remember ever playing with a "wriggle" type of toy (although from reading some of your older posts I am a couple of years older then you....30 this year - ohhh the tragegy!!...so I may have been to old for it. Or it may never have made it here to Australia). However, I do remember playing the clapping game with other people. I wonder if I remember any of the moves . Used to get nice red palms from that. Hi everyone! Sorry I think those wiggle thingies I mentioned were actually called "wiggley giggley"..ring any bells to anyone now..? I remember my palms stinging Beck after a good old clpping game..here in England (or at least when I was in school) one of the rhymes was: My Momma told me If I were goodie that she would buy me, a rubber dolly, My Auntie told her I kissed a soldier, now she won´t buy me a rubber dolly..... Then you´d to continue it with "3,6,9 the goos drank wine, the monkey chewed Tobacco on the street four line (?) the line broke and the monkey got choked and they allwent to heaven in a little rowing boat...clap,clap,clap your hands now..." Something like that anyway...does anyone else remember that one? Ciao for now... Me!

Coo ur gosh! /me blushes Those toys sound a bit like Weebles (slogan: "weebles wobble but they don't fall down!"). They were egg-shaped and weighted in the base so they always landed upright. Provided me with much amusement when I was 3 or so

We had that one too .. can´t remember the rest of it either for the moment, but it will probably turn up in the old "noggin" later on Did any of you Guys ever play "playground games" such as "Kiss catch" or "tig"..then you´d to do the rhymes to find out if you were "it"..you know.. "one potato, two potato, three potato four...etc.." Hmmmm..you´re all probably getting sick of me huh!? So, I´ll skidaddle out of here for now... Becky

We played
Kiss Cuddle and Torture - when the girls and boys would split up into teams of the same sex, decided what was assigned to each number ie 1 - cuddle, 2 - kiss and 3 would be torture. You then chased the boys and when you caught them, you made them pick a number and then give it to them (oooooh, can I type that on a kids site!)
British Bulldog - which is probably well known over all the generations!
Romeo - variation between Red Rover, Buldog and Treason.......too comlicated to get into if you don't know how to play it!!!!
Red Rover!
Hmmmm, can't think of anymore at the mo!
